Tattoo removal

How does tattoo removal work?
During tattooing, pigments are introduced into the skin. Because of the size of the ink particles, the body is unable to break them down. This causes the skin to encapsulate the pigments so that it is not damaged. In this way, balls of ink are literally created that do not damage the skin but are visible and will remain in place.

The safest way to remove a tattoo is through laser therapy. Laser beams are absorbed by the color pigments of a tattoo and this causes the large ink particles to break down into smaller ink particles, small enough that they can be disposed of by the body. So during each session, we will remove a layer of those pigments until there is nothing left.

How many treatments are needed?

How many treatments are needed to remove a tattoo is very difficult to predict prior to the process. On average, it takes 5-10 treatments to remove a tattoo. We want to strongly emphasize that this number is only an average. The speed at which a tattoo can be removed depends on many different factors:

Amount of ink
The amount of ink greatly determines the number of treatments. The more ink was used during the tattoo, the more treatments will be needed to remove the tattoo.

Color of tattoo
The color used plays an important role in tattoo removal. Pigments with dark undertones (such as black and gray) are generally easier to remove than pigments with red undertones (brown). Red pigments may first oxidize during treatment, which will cause the tattoo to darken. This dark color will then fade with subsequent treatments.

Skin Type
The lighter the skin, the easier it is to remove a tattoo. The more pigment the skin contains, the more treatments will be needed.

In addition to the factors mentioned above, there are a number of factors that affect the speed of removal. These are namely: the presence of scar tissue, location of the tattoo on the body, age and health.

Depth
The deeper the tattoo is set, the more treatments will be needed. If the tattoo is shallow, it will be easier to remove.

Quality of pigments
There are many different types of pigments on the market. Each pigment type has its own composition and reacts differently to laser treatment.

Individual lymphatic system
The pigment particles pulverized during a laser treatment are drained by the lymphatic system in the weeks following the treatment. In some people this process works faster than in others.

How many weeks are there between treatments and how long will my laser session take?
How long the body takes to dispose of the ink particles from 1 treatment can vary from person to person. On average this process takes 8 weeks. The result of 1 treatment can therefore really only be determined after at least 8 weeks.

So we prefer to schedule a treatment every 8 to 12 weeks.
We do not recommend scheduling a treatment earlier because the ink particles will not be completely removed by then. The treatment itself is quite short, sometimes only a few minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo.

Is the Starwalker a "Picolaser?
Yes! The Fotona Starwalker belongs to one of the newest and most advanced laser systems in the field of tattoo removal and works on the basis of the picosecond technique.

A picosecond is 100 times faster compared to a nanosecond and only 1 trillionth of a second. In tattoo removal, this causes the ink particles to be made even smaller, allowing the body to clean them up even easier and faster

Is the treatment painful?
Tattoo laser treatment can be perceived as quite sensitive,

You can compare it to rubber bands that shoot against the skin. During the treatment we use a Zimmer Cool device, which numbs the skin with ice cold air. This makes the treatment much less sensitive.

May I use numbing ointment before my treatment?
Yes you may! You can purchase an ointment at the clinic if they are in stock. Otherwise, it can also be done through your doctor by prescription.
What do I need to consider after the treatment?
After laser treatment you will usually experience some redness and swelling. The skin may feel sensitive for a while, but this will not interfere with your daily activities. In special cases blistering can occur. This is also a normal reaction, we see this mainly with tattoos with color.
Is tattoo laser treatment suitable for toned or dark skin?
Yes! With the starwalker MaQX we can safely treat any skin type. However, tattoo removal on dark skin will require more treatments than a tattoo on a white skin. This is because the darker skin contains more natural pigments so there is an extra layer of skin present and there will be less treatment required.
After removing my tattoo, can I put another one in the same place?
Yes you can! The skin will recover completely without scars.

We can also blur the current tattoo such that a beautiful cover up is possible.

Can you be treated if you are pregnant?
New Skin Laserclinic has chosen not to treat during pregnancy due to changed hormone levels, the skin may react differently and the expected effects cannot be guaranteed as with a normal hormone balance.
Will my tattoo go away completely?
Because we use the latest laser technology, we can also expect the best results. However, it still depends on a number of factors. The lighter the skin, the easier it is to remove a tattoo. The more pigment the skin contains, the more treatments will be necessary.

In addition to the factors mentioned above, there are a number of factors that affect the speed of removal. These are namely: the presence of scar tissue, location of the tattoo on the body, age and health. These all play a role in the outcome and treatment process. Fortunately, in 99% of cases, we don't see any of it!

I previously had my tattoo lasered away elsewhere, can I transfer to you?
This is no problem at all, in fact, we see many tattoos where results could no longer be achieved elsewhere and we still get the entire tattoo removed.

PMU removal

How does permanent makeup removal work?
When Permanent make up is applied, the pigment color is applied just below the surface of the skin. Unlike tattoos, this usually involves pigmentation in the upper layer of the skin.

Because of the size of the ink particles, the body is unable to break them down. This causes the skin to encapsulate the pigments so that it is not damaged. In this way, balls of ink are literally created that do not damage the skin but are visible and will remain in place.

The safest way to remove PMU is through laser therapy. The laser beams are absorbed by the color pigments and this causes the large ink particles to break down into smaller ink particles, small enough that they can be disposed of by the body. So during each session, we will remove a layer of those pigments until there is nothing left.

Should I shave my eyebrows before my treatment?
No! Fortunately, you don't have to. The Fotona Starwalker is one of the few lasers that does not cause hair loss during treatment.
In addition to the fact that the Starwalker is FDA approved for the removal of Permanent Makeup, the Starwalker works on the basis of an acoustic reaction, so almost no heat development takes place in the skin, which also means that permanent hair loss does not occur.
Older lasers (Q-Switched Nd-YAG, Ruby, Alexandrite) often caused permanent hair loss because of the thermal reaction in the skin.
Our specialists can remove your permanent makeup on the eyebrows without having to remove the hair.
How many treatments are needed?

How many treatments are needed to remove PMU is very difficult to predict prior to the process. On average, 3-5 treatments are required to remove PMU. We want to strongly emphasize that this number is only an average. The speed at which a PMU can be removed depends on many different factors:

Amount of ink
The amount of ink greatly determines the number of treatments. The more ink used during the PMU setting, the more treatments will be needed to remove the PMU.

Color of the PMU
The color used plays an important role in removal. Pigments with a dark undertone (such as black and gray) are generally easier to remove than pigments with a red undertone (brown). Red pigments may first oxidize during treatment, which will cause the PMU to darken. This dark color will then fade with subsequent treatments.

Skin type
The lighter the skin, the easier it is to remove a PMU. The more pigment the skin contains, the more treatments will be required.
In addition to the above factors, there are a number of other factors that affect how quickly removal can be done. These are namely age and health.

Depth
The deeper the PMU is set, the more treatments will be needed. If the PMU is shallow, it will be easier to remove again.

Quality of pigments
There are many different types of pigments on the market. Each pigment type has its own composition and reacts differently to laser treatment.

I previously had my permanent makeup lasered away elsewhere, can I switch to you?
This is no problem at all, we see many cases where results could no longer be achieved elsewhere and where we still get the PMU completely gone.

What do I need to consider after the treatment?
After a laser treatment you usually experience 1-3 hours of redness and swelling. The skin may also feel sensitive for a while but it will not interfere with your daily activities. In some cases the pigments oxidize to another color because PMU is often composed of multiple colors. This does not affect the result. We recommend avoiding sun for two weeks.

Micro hair pigmentation removal

How does micro hair pigmentation (MHP) removal work?
