Have you had a tattoo lasered? The aftercare of a tattoo laser treatment is almost as important as the laser treatment itself. Find out what you can do.

So, you are finally undergoing treatment for the removal of your tattoo. Ready, right? No, not quite. It is important to take good care of your skin after the laser treatment. The final result depends very much on how you care for your skin. What is so important about aftercare and why are not all creams suitable? We explain it all to you.

What can you expect after the treatment?

After the treatment, the skin is red and swollen. This can last for 1 to 3 hours. Some bruising may also be visible and with coloured tattoos there is often some blistering. There is no need to worry, this is normal. This will go away within a few days. To speed up this process, however, it is important that you use the right restorative cream during the aftercare of your tattoo laser treatment.

When will you see results?

The result is often visible after one or two treatments. You will notice that the tattoo fades and sometimes the colour changes. It is also possible that it takes longer before you see results. This depends on a number of factors. Think of the depth of the tattoo, the amount of ink, the location and the quality of the ink.

Showering after your laser treatment

What about showering after your treatment? Don't worry, you can shower after your laser treatment. Make sure that the shower is not too hot to prevent a severe skin reaction. We also recommend using a wash gel that has an antibacterial effect. We recommend all our clients the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 wash gel (9,95), which is available in our clinic and on the webshop.

Why not Bepanthen or Vaseline?

Bepanthen and Vaseline are well-known brands when it comes to skin care. They are effective in, for example, restoring dry skin. Although they can work well for dry skin, these products are not antibacterial and they completely seal the skin. In the aftercare of a tattoo laser treatment it is important to use products that allow the skin to breathe. This way irritation can be prevented and recovery is faster.

The products we recommend are special products that contain the right ingredients. We have chosen La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5, because it is a line that is one of the few that has an antibacterial effect in addition to a restorative one. We think this is extremely important. This product is used by dermatologists and skin therapists after cosmetic procedures, stitches and also laser treatments. The advice is to apply it twice a day for the first five days after treatment. This also applies to the wash gel.

Benefits La Roche Posay Cicaplast B5:

⁃ Moisturises the skin so that it does not flake or peel, and prevents itching
⁃ Works anti-bacterially and prevents infection
⁃ Adds an extra layer of protection
⁃ Heals twice as fast and prevents scarring

We recommend a combination of Cicaplast Baume B5 (washing gel) and Cicaplast B5 Gel.

Operating instructions

The first week after the treatment, wash your skin with Cicaplast Baume B5. This wash gel is anti-bacterial and soothing for the skin. Afterwards, dry the area with a clean towel and apply Cicaplast B5 Gel to the skin.

*The products can be purchased on site or in our webshop.

Post-treatment is half the battle

We do our part to ensure that the removal of your tattoo is a success. However, the result also depends on proper aftercare. So it is important to take good care of the skin after a laser treatment. Why? After the treatment the skin becomes thinner, can become dry, itchy and tight. This slows down recovery and we want to prevent this with the right after-treatment. A restorative cream is therefore decisive for the final result of your treatment. If you don't use it, you will probably start scratching with scabs and scars as a result.
